Bulstrode Park, Gerrards Cross

Project Overview
Bulstrode Park is a historic English country estate with an extensive park, situated southwest of Gerrards Cross in Buckinghamshire. The property spans the parishes of Chalfont St Peter, Gerrards Cross, and Fulmer, and its origins date back to before the Norman Conquest.
MEC Commercial Solutions was commissioned to undertake a full mechanical services strip-out and install a temporary plant room. The property is a Grade II listed manor house currently undergoing extensive renovation, so we were conscious to collaborate with other teams working on site.
The project involved the removal of all existing mechanical systems and the installation of a temporary biomass boiler plant to maintain heating and hot water supplies throughout the works.
Scope of Works
- Full strip-out of the existing mechanical services within the manor house and associated plant rooms.
- Supply, delivery, and installation of a temporary biomass boiler system to provide renewable heat during the renovation period.
- Integration of a pellet storage and conveyor system, ensuring a continuous fuel supply to the biomass boilers.
- Temporary plant room setup, including boiler room delivery, distribution pipework, and connection to existing systems.
- Coordination with the main contractor and other trades to ensure minimal disruption across a busy site with full road and service access requirements.
Technical Details
- Boiler Type: Temporary biomass boilers
- Fuel System: Pellet-fed with tube-fed conveyor delivery system
- Distribution: Complete temporary plant room distribution network designed and installed by MEC
- Duration: 6 months, including temporary heating and hot water provision
Challenges and Solutions
Working within a historic property presented unique logistical and preservation challenges. MEC implemented a carefully planned strip-out to protect the existing structure, followed by the installation of a modular, self-contained plant room positioned to maintain access and service continuity throughout the works.
The temporary biomass system ensured the building remained operational with sustainable heating, aligning with modern energy standards while supporting the renovation programme.
Outcome
The project was completed on schedule, providing consistent heating and hot water throughout the six-month refurbishment period. The temporary biomass installation delivered both reliability and environmental performance, setting the foundation for future permanent renewable systems once the main works conclude.
