Gantry Hotel, Stratford

Overview

This project was carried out at The Gantry Hotel in Stratford and involved the removal, repair, and reinstallation of a major ventilation fan serving the hotel’s HVAC system. The fan motor had suffered a complete burnout, requiring a full rebuild by a specialist repair service and subsequent mechanical and electrical reinstallation on site.

Scope of Works

• Removal of existing fan assembly and associated ductwork to allow full access.
• Disconnection of electrical connections and safe extraction of the motor for off-site rebuild.
• Temporary modification and marking of ducting components and fan blades to maintain correct balance and alignment during reassembly.
• Installation of a rebuilt motor and reinstallation of the fan into the existing system.
• Inclusion of acoustic baffles to reduce operational noise levels.

Challenges

• Restricted access within the plant area required careful dismantling and reassembly of large components.
• Ensuring precise rebalancing of fan blades and counterweights after reinstallation.

Solutions and Approach

The team safely removed the fan from the ducting system and transported the burnt-out motor to a certified repair facility for a full rebuild. During removal, each fan blade and counterweight was clearly marked to ensure correct reassembly and optimal performance. Once the motor was returned, it was reinstalled and reconnected to the electrical system, with final alignment and balancing carried out on-site. Acoustic baffles were incorporated within the ducting to minimise sound transmission, ensuring quiet and efficient operation.

Results

The entire project was completed within a three-day window, including fan extraction, motor rebuild, and system reinstallation. The refurbished fan system restored full ventilation performance for the hotel and improved operational efficiency. The coordinated approach ensured minimal disruption to hotel operations while delivering a long-term, reliable solution.
